Criminal Injuries

If you have been injured as a result of a criminal assault or other criminal activity and there are no prospects of making a personal injury claim against the perpetrator, you may be able to make a claim to the designated Government body known as the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) and we have substantial experience of dealing with these types of claims.

As you might imagine, with the restricted public funds available there are criteria and limits for making a successful criminal injury compensation claim, and the main aspects to be aware of in this regard are :-

  • an application must be made no later than 2 years after the incident
  • the crime needs to have been reported to the police as soon as practical after it occurred.
  • the injuries you sustained must be significant enough to have incapacitated you for at least 6 weeks.
  • Your legal costs will not be paid by the CICA so it is important you reach a suitable agreement regarding costs with any solicitors you use.

The area of criminal injury compensation is complex. Please do get in touch for a full, confidential discussion with our experts today to find out all the options and the best one for you.
